Video Transcript:

[Music] you've been working on a concrete poem and i wanted to give you a digital version of how to make your concrete pole so what you're going to do is you're going to go ahead and open up your google slides and you're going to have your first page now we're going to get rid of this part of it because we're going to insert our own so go ahead and if you go ahead and highlight this and then you can click delete you have a blank slate to start with so the first thing you're going to want to do is um go ahead and find a silhouette of the animal that you have been writing about so for example i wrote about a cat so to do that you're going to go to insert image search the web and when you do that let's do that again insert image search the web you are going to type out the animal you're looking at so for example i was doing cat but let's say that i was doing um a bird i would do bird and then i would start typing out silhouette and it should pop up for you so then you would choose something that is fairly simple you don't want a very complex looking silhouette you want something that has lots of body to it so that you can write your words so um this right here would be a good example this would not be a good example because there's not a lot of space for you to write this could be a good example this would be a great example as well and i would stay clear of anything that has a colored background for now okay so i think i'm going to choose um i think i like this one because it's got a nice big broad amount of space for me to be able to type on all right so here is my bird and the first thing i'm going to do is double click on it and if your silhouette came in and had a lot of white space in between it meaning it clicked in and has like looks like this all you're going to do is double click you're going to get these black um lines around it and you're going to drag it to as close as you can to your um subject area this way that it kind of squares it in so this looks good to me so i'm going ahead and click that off i'm still going to keep this um highlighted because then what i'm going to do is i'm going to go here where it says format options now to be able to type on this if i'm typing in black um definitely i'm not going to get that same look because i'm not going to be able to see black on top of black so what we're going to do is we're going to go all the way down and when you open it up it looks something like this we're going to go to adjustments and we're going to change our transparency to 85. so if you scroll over and as you can see your um subject is going to change and you're going to get as close to 85 as you can so that's that looks about right all right that's all you really need to do with that and then you can go ahead and close that window now the next thing you're going to do is you're going to create a text box on top of the animal you're doing again you want to get as close as you can to all of the parts to kind of square it up so here i am to the end of here i look like i'm good at the top and let's say you did it and it didn't show up it's very good you can look at this nine um dots and you can pull it in if you need to come a little bit closer now yours this is a new thing with google um it makes it so that when you do that it then all of a sudden it looks like it's got this smaller shaping right now it's resized to fit the text so basically whatever you type in there it's going to adjust the size we do not want to do that we want to click on this box and we want to type we want to click on do not auto fit all right so i'm going to go here and i'm going to bring back down my square all right that looks good all right last thing we're going to do is start our typing so i'm going to go ahead i'm going to keep it in black and i am going to click here and what you're going to do is you're going to space over now this is the only time that i have said that you can space over normally i want you to tab over to where you need to go but for this particular assignment you're going to space over and you're going to wait till you get about your cursor is about halfway on your on your silhouette so this looks pretty good um so and then what you're gonna do is you're gonna have your poem next to you that you probably have written out on paper and you're going to type so here we go all right so what we want to do is we want to stop where this line is if it goes over a tiny tiny bit that's okay but we really want to make sure that we um actually might move that over just a little bit we want to make sure that your poem is within your animal so then i'm going to click enter and then i'm going to go again [Music] okay so here's my bird um and so now what i'm going to do is i um really like what this looks like um i am going to now create a frame to go around it so i'm going to go up here to my sizes all right so i think i'm like eight i'm going to change um my background so let me go to my background and i'm going to choose a complementary color to go with my poem so i'm writing about this yellow bird so i think that i'm going to do yellow um ooh that's very bright um and then i'm going to actually that now that i put the yellow in my silhouette looks a little dark so what i'm going to do is i'm going to click and i'm going to pull this over a little bit and i'm going to click on my silhouette and i'm going to go to my format and i'm going to change my adjustment and make it just a little bit darker just so that i can see it and then i'm going to pull my picture back over on top of my silhouette all right so that's that and then i'm going to create another text box and this one um actually i am going let me get rid of this text box delete i'm gonna actually do a shape and i think i would like to do a sun do it there we go and um then inside my son i'm going to put my text box and again i'm going to change this to do not autofit and i'm going to change my font i think i like oh geez birds are kind of rough but smooth i do chewy and i'm going to center it and i'm going to fold it and my salad and i'm going to write the third by this c let me make it just a little bit bigger and then for my transparency i'm going to make this a little bit thicker so that i have a little bit thicker line and i'm going to change the color up a little bit to there we go and there we go there's our poem so i hope this helps you and um um any time during the video if you want to pause it and see what we're doing rewind it this should be able to help you
