welcome everyone to global PMO Solutions learning series I'm your host dr. Walker quickly the objective of the series is to help educate and share knowledge in various business areas namely PMO project program portfolio change management and much more the PMO Learning Series is the first of the overall learning series and in episode three we will go through where do PMO's report in to or will do PMO's report to PMO's may report to the following heads and there is there is no science fits all for p.m. important depending on the organization size structure and culture PMO could report directly or indirectly into the following individuals they may report into the chief executive officer of the company or the president they may report into the chief operating officer or the CIO chief information officer or they may report into the chief financial officer when the PMO reports to the CEO with a PMO is involved directly in an organization strategy process the head of the PMO right at the table with all these executives that we've seen on the previous slide working on the organization strategy the planning of the organization strategy itself also it's a strategic entity in itself it might be sometimes reporting into a strategy office or it could be the strategy office itself having the the PMO as well most probably it will have portfolio management as some of you already know portfolio is the execution vehicle for strategy so if it reports to a CEO it will definitely have portfolio management responsibilities some of the titles that PMO might have reporting to CEO would be enterprise project management office or a strategic project office or a project office also some of the titles for the head of the PMO they might be chief project officer ie reporting directly to the CEO have a seat title as well or achieve governance office or a vice president be an executive vice president or a senior vice president a PMO reporting to the CEO it will still be involved directly in the organization strategy process no different than reporting to the CEO its involved in the operation as well so you will find in these kind of PMO's when they report to the CEO or to to the CEO there is an element where strategy and operate so it's a strategic entity as well as operational when it comes to budget where is this spent from a portfolio perspective there is also always concern from CEOs how is the operation doing and that PMO will be involved in also the operation side most probably it will include the portfolio practice as well some of the titles PMO may have again Enterprise PMO as we've seen reporting to the CEO a government's portfolio management office or a corporate governance office some of the titles the head of the PMO may have SVP of strategy where actually the PMO will be part of the strategy had a strategic project office or portfolio project office or a senior vice president of the PMO itself when a PMO report to the CIO it might be involved directly or indirectly in an organization strategy the CIO will be definitely involved in organization strategy from the IT perspective where is IT heading and what's expected for the IT organization and the PMO or reporting to a CIO helps in that it can be strategic and it can be tactical depending on the reporting sure of the PMO it my most probably will have the IT portfolio management but not the entire organization portfolio while there might be other PMO's in the organization if there is an IT PMO in a smaller size organization sometimes the IT PMO reporting to a CIO is the main PMO for the organization so again all depends the PMO the IT PMO may coincide with other PMO's or it might be on its own there might be sub PMO is with an IT itself depending on how large the organization some IT and in some organization IT spans over multiple divisions depending on whether it's centralized or decentralized and depending on the size of the organization the IT is supporting and serving so based on that PMO might be called the IT PMO information technology or the delivery PMO delivery management office the head of the PMO may have different titles ranging from the VP of the IT PMO reporting to a CIO all the way to if there are multiple PMO's within the IT department you may have senior director or a director of the PMO or director of delivery IT delivery if a PMO reports to the CFO it might be involved similar to the CIO directly or indirectly within the organization strategy it might be strategic and it might be operational it will have more focus on financial planning and realization benefit organization hence portfolio management most likely it will include portfolio management the PMO might have titles such as a corporate project office or a governance project office and the head of the PMO's are senior enough ie either a head of strategic realization office on a VP of a PMO or senior director of a PMO and the difference between a senior director and a VP in some organization the senior director reports into the VP in a smaller organism Asians probably the director is in the hierarchy reporting directly to a c-level all depends on what or how nested is the organization and how flat or how layered in terms of the hierarchy of the
