well I certainly took a hefty beating for the announcement that Everstoke will become a private club next year we want our trails back we want our trails back i responded to a few of the comments but it's probably just easier to make this video and then I went back into the comments looking for the points and the counterpoints and it just made me completely sick to my stomach again so I thought I was ready to do this but all we do as humans is care about what other people are thinking about us it's where all anxiety comes from it's where every decision comes from and then on the other hand history is just an endless array of people that got together and went against the consensus and did something that was crazy at the time i have taken quite a few crazy gamles i've probably lost more than I've won but my life is so much better because of those crazy gambles so turning Ever Stoke into a private membersonly club is a fantastic idea i'm doubling down on it i'm not backing off it's never been done before in mountain biking so I'm fighting for a way to convey the idea that I see in my head to all of you and to nail the price the price is the biggest thing that everybody's hung up on and finding that perfect zone is so hard it sounds like most people are hung up on the idea that it's just a bike park pass you show up you ride the trails you go home you're just paying for trails why would you pay for trails you're paying for a place where people can bring their families year after year after year to go out and explore the Lost Sierra we've got so many ideas on how to make this place better and the members will focus us and point us in the right direction of what we need to accomplish next what we're not trying to do is get the most amount of people churning through here all day every day we just can't do it the liability of doing something like this for the public in California is massive the pitfalls are endless it is a miracle we have gotten this far the entire crux of this change is liability i know I glanced over it in the other video i'm not superstitious but when you talk about these things it just feels like you're just manifesting them so Joe Blow rolls up to Ever Stoke doesn't see the sign skips the waiver first thing he gets on is the teeter totter he rolls off he breaks his neck he's paralyzed six months later and we're on the witness stand and the prosecutor is asking us "Who built this mountain bike feature are they qualified to build mountain bike features was this mountain bike feature regularly maintained?" In what world do you think we get out of that situation without losing everything but you should have seen the mean comments we had to keep it open to the public it might be a one ina- million thing but if you need a million people to come through your business for it to work it's going to happen the same situation happening to a member of a private club is very different it's still going to be a nightmare for all involved but that person knows the lay of the land they've been a member they understand the terrain they've been a part of it so with that very happy note we're just looking for a nice small group of members to get started and then to get growing and that means the biggest piece of the puzzle and the hardest thing to nail down is the price of course I have a bit of a distorted view as buying a giant piece of land and building mountain bike trails has been my dream ever since I first started riding a bike so my value of this place is astronomical there's only so many spots there's only so many days on the calendar and I'm going to circle back to that a little bit because some people were saying "Oh there's only six months." We get more than 6 months out here so maybe 1,200 bucks a year isn't the right price but I think it's in the ballpark we are looking for a small group of people it's a niche inside of a niche inside of a niche and you put out a video and 15,000 people watch it and you only need 20 people it's quite polarizing value is the most subjective thing in the world have you ever talked to a dirt bike guy they are absolutely flabbergasted and flumxed anytime you talk to them and you say "Oh yeah my bike was like $7,000." And they're like "What why would you ever pay for something without a motor that's $7,000?" Yes you can ride and camp for free in so many places and if that works for you fantastic i would never drive across the country gas is too expensive and it tears up my car i'd rather take the bus it seems 100% logical that we should all be taking the bus so why don't we take the bus yes we were always absolutely crazy to do this on a shoestring budget it is an endless money pit but it's not going to kill us we are going to buy the land we're going to buy it outright once the loan is due i am not worried about that but it would be great to have other people out here and to be a part of it i know it's the easiest thing in the world to make fun of the kumbaya and oh we're gonna make connections we're going to make lifelong friends but being out here at Eversto and making those connections and making those friends it's it's a huge piece of the puzzle so why didn't we just do this from the start so basically this is a whole entire side tangent here but my idea from the start we get the land we build the trails which is going to take a long time and we build a big house on the property we rent out that house five bedrooms eight bedrooms separate entrances it's just a big Airbnb where the trails are the amenity the trails are just the pool on the property but we kind of should just get up and running with something we should build some trails and then h well I guess we could just build a couple spots where people could stay and then it just kind of spiraled out from there we're going to need old drone pal to hit the bricks and for the money printer to start back up again for that to be a possibility in the future so back to one of the arguments I saw in the comments oh you guys are only going to be open five months out of the year oh contr the highest point on our property is 4900 ft every single year so far we have ridden into December without a problem it snows and then it melts it snows and then it melts it's the weather it's always going to be unpredictable and weird from year to year january usually it snows it stays but then we'll have these random days in February where it's perfect and then it rains and then it snows all that stuff the days are shorter and it's a little colder in the sleeping bag overnight for sure but those are some of the best days out here it's remarkable we have the freeze thaw and the muddiness but man if it stops raining for a couple days and the sun is out it transforms into hero dirt so nice but yes the surrounding trail networks they do take much longer to thaw out as you get higher and higher in elevation and if you're into crazy winter adventures Ever Stoke is right on the highway and we get our driveway plowed so the day after a snowstorm is actually one of the most cool and mesmerizing things you can do out here just hiking walking around if you're into snow camping go set up a tent in the snow it's freaking amazing out here and once again I want to reiterate if you're coming from somewhere else somewhere beyond the scope of membership shoot me an email i will guide you around if the timing works out I would be thrilled to show you this place seriously I mean it all right this whole thing uh chewed me up and spit me out after three days thank you to the one person that reached out and texted me i thought it would be nice to go for a ride and talk about everything but I could have done a better job for sure probably should have had some talking to the camera moments and gone over it a hundred times and showed it to a hundred people and live and learn selvi
