Transcript of How I make $5k/mo with FREE Framer templates

Most people think you can only make money with framer templates by selling them, but I've been earning 3 to 5,000 a month for the past six months by giving them away for free. And in this video, I'll show you exactly how it works and how you can do it, too. So, I'll give you a brief overview of my experience with selling framework templates for the past 2 years, just so you know that you can actually trust me. So, I started back in September 2023. I didn't make a lot of money for quite a while, for around 2 months. I made around $200 to $300 from frameware templates. And then in November 2023, I made $3,000 with my first frame template that got featured in the frameware marketplace. After that, for around a year, I hovered around the 2 to 3K a month mark. right until the end of last year when I started making5 to $8,000 a month. And back in May of this year, I actually managed to finally break the 10K a month mark by just selling framework templates. And the cool thing is that the majority of this revenue comes through my affiliate rewards, which mainly come from my free templates. And this is exactly how you can make money by offering frame templates for free. You see, when your template is let's go, let's go, let's go. When your template is free, a lot more users try it out and therefore there's a higher chance that somebody might actually purchase a Framer plan. And if you have your affiliate link inserted into your template, you will get 50% from their Framer subscription up to the first year that they stay with Framer. And this is the gist of how free frame templates work and how they make money. But not all free templates end up being used as much as possible because I have free templates that have been used around 100 times and then I have others who have around 3.6k remixes. So what separates a free template that gets used versus a free template that nobody uses. The first thing that matters a lot is the niche of your template. If you logically think about it, the free templates that get used the most are used by people who are just starting out and can't afford paying for a premium template. So, what kinds of niches are these? In my experience, these are graphic design niches, photography niches. A lot of agency niches also fall into this category like AI agencies, email marketing agencies, and so on. But in general, the agency niche and framers marketplace is starting to get a bit saturated. So, I would recommend niching it even further and not going for a generic agency template. The second thing is the actual structure, design, and the content of your template. If your template doesn't have the sections that your target audience might need, then they won't use it, and they'll pick another template that has everything that they need. Key sections like that are pricing sections, VSSL sections, frequently asked question sections, comparison table sections, and so on and so on. So, make sure that your template has everything that your target customer might need for their website. On top of that, a great design is always a big plus because all of my templates that are not that great looking don't get used as often, while other templates that are a bit better designed and a bit more eye-catching, they obviously get used a lot more. And finally, trying to rank your template as high as possible on the Frame Marketplace is key if you want your template to get used. And how you do that is by collecting stats like views, previews, and remixes. And the key to getting more of those are nice thumbnails, and greatl looking design. Another thing you can do whenever you launch a free template is promoted on Twitter with a giveaway. This is what I did with my last template called seasons, which got a lot of engagement on Twitter. And currently, it's sitting in the first position at a few template categories on the marketplace. So, now that we're done with the more boring part, I will actually show you some real numbers so you can get an idea of how much money I started making in the beginning of last year when my business first started growing. So, uh we're starting at February 2024. This is around my fifth or sixth month of starting this business. And you see in February I made $961. In March, I made around the same. Then in April, things started to pick up slowly and I made 1.4K. And keep in mind that in this period, I was publishing at least one or two new templates every month and every other one was a free template. When we moved to May, you see there's a big jump to 2.5K. Then in June, I made 2.6K. In July, I made 2.869. So, you see it's only growing and growing. And currently, my affiliate revenue is around 5 to 6,000 a month just from affiliate rewards. Now, obviously, this is not all from free templates. Paid templates also do get affiliate rewards. But I have noticed that when I publish a successful free template, my affiliate rewards always tend to jump up quite a bit. So, as you can see, it's completely possible to make money with Framer templates, even if you just give them away for free. So, now I'll just super quickly give you a few steps that you can follow if you want to launch your first free template in this month. Basically, the first thing you got to do is pick a niche. Then you need to design a greatl looking website. Second, you need to develop it in framer so that it passes framer's review process. And finally, you need to package it up with a nice thumbnail, nice title, and submit it to the marketplace. Although this process sounds quite simple, if you try it, you'll see that a lot of the times framer will actually end up projecting your template, especially if this is the first time you try to build a template for framer.
